DJIBOUTI – Philippine Navy Capt. Mateo Carido, commander of Combined Task Force (CTF) 151, met with leaders of the Djibouti Navy and Coast Guard at their respective headquarters earlier this month.

Col. Ahmed Daher Djama, the Chief of the Djibouti Navy, welcomed Carido and his team during a visit to the Djibouti Navy headquarters. Likewise, Col. Mohamed Adaweh Mohamed, the Deputy Commander of the Djibouti Coast Guard, also accommodated the team at their headquarters.

During the discussions, Carido updated Djibouti’s maritime leaders on recent CTF 151 counter-piracy operations. They discussed the significance of their partnership, the importance of Maritime Security Enhancement Training, and how the Combined Maritime Forces remain committed to non-state facing threats in international waters.

“It is always a pleasure to visit our partners in Djibouti and discuss common goals centered on maritime security in the region,” said Carido. “We must all continue to work together to protect international shipping as ships transit through some of the busiest sea lanes in the world.”

CTF 151 is focused on the deterrence, disruption, and suppression of piracy and armed robbery in the maritime environment. The task force engages with regional and other partners to build capacity and improve relevant capabilities such as policing of local waters, the ability to conduct effective boarding operations and the development of Maritime Security Standard Operating Procedures.
