Rear Admiral Byeong-Ju Yu of the Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN), Commander Combined Task Force (CTF) 151, met with Commodore Mohamed Yousif Al-Asam, Commander Royal Bahrain Naval Force at Mina Salman Naval Base in Manama, Bahrain.
CTF 151 is responsible for counter-piracy operations off the Horn of Africa and Western Indian Ocean and is commanded by the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF); a 33 nation collaboration ensuring the free flow of commerce in the region.
The Royal Bahrain Navy (RBN) commanded CTF 151 from November 2017 to March 2018 and is a valuable and consistent participant in CMF exercises and events.
The meeting offered the opportunity for Rear Admiral Yu to discuss future increased cooperation between the two forces. It was also an occasion for the ROKN to develop an understanding of RBN capabilities and agree future collaborations with RBN.
Rear Admiral Yu said: “I thank the Royal Bahrain Navy for their hospitality. The Republic of Korea has long standing ties with Bahrain and I hope to expand and strengthen our relationship during my tenure as Commander CTF 151.”
CTF 151 is under ROKN command, supported by personnel from seven nations, from June until October 2019.
