



Pakistan Navy Ship SHAMSHEER and the Royal Navy Ship HMS LANCASTER conducted a Passing Exercise (PASSEX) in the Arabian Sea while participating in Combined Task Force (CTF) 150 operations. The exercise aimed at enhancing interoperability, strengthening coordinated response and demonstrate shared commitment to ensure maritime security in the region.
The bilateral exercise included several joint manoeuvres, communication drills and surface warfare exercises. These activities were designed to refine tactical capabilities and foster seamless cooperation for conducting operations against sub-conventional threats. The exercise allowed both navies to share expertise and improve operational coordination contributing to enhancing overall strength and cohesion of the coalition.
PNS SHAMSHEER, a multi-role guided missile frigate, is adept at conducting a wide range of missions Maritime Security Operations. Meanwhile, HMS LANCASTER, a Type 23 frigate of the Royal Navy, has advanced anti-submarine and surface warfare capabilities. The exercise was conducted when both ships were operating as part of Pakistan-led CTF-150, maximizing optimal utilization of time at sea to refine procedures and enhance coordination for Maritime Security Operations.
HMS Lancaster’s Commanding Officer, Cdr Chris Chew RN, said:
“Conducting serials such as this with our international partners is essential to building stronger relationships which prove vital for success on operations. These relationships are crucial whilst operating under the Combined Maritime Force (CMF) construct, carrying out maritime security operations.”
The Commanding Officer of PNS SHAMSHEER also underscored significance of such exercises in enhancing international naval cooperation and pronounced these collaborative efforts as fundamental to maintain lawful order at sea.
CTF 150, one of the five task forces operated by the CMF, is tasked with maintaining maritime security and countering terrorism in the Indian Ocean, Arabian Sea, and Gulf of Oman. Both Pakistan and the Royal Navy contribute invaluable expertise to the coalition, drawing on their extensive experience in this area of vital significance.
The nature of CTF 150 operations requires close coordination among CMF contributing nations and regional partners to achieve mission success. Collaborative activities like this exercise are essential for fostering strong relationships, building trust, and achieving shared maritime security objectives.
