Between mid-June and early July, French Ship Var, Combined Task Force 150 flag ship, made two port visits in Djibouti. These stops were the opportunity for the ship to conduct common training activities with the Djiboutian Navy as well as with the French Forces located in the country. It was also the occasion for Captain René-Jean Crignola, Commander CTF150, to meet with high level representatives, as part of CMF regional engagement program.

Mid-June 2015 saw Combined Task Force (CTF) 150 coordinate ships involved in maritime security operations to provide help to mariners in need in the Gulf of Aden.

In June, while sailing in the Gulf of Aden, Capt. René-Jean Crignola, Commander of Combined Task Force 150 (CCTF-150), held a national change of command ceremony aboard the French replenishment oiler FS Var, flag vessel of the Task Force. During this ceremony at sea, Commander (Cdr) Patrick de Sevin relieved Cder Jean-Yves Martin as FS Var new Commanding Officer.

While navigating off the Somali coast, Combined Task Force (CTF) 150 flagship, French Ship (FS) Var, linked up with two Spanish ships from the European Union Naval Force (EUNAVFOR) Somalia otherwise known as Operation Atalanta, who were operating in the area.

As the sun rose over the Mozambique Channel on May 18, Her Majesty’s Australian Ship (HMAS) Newcastle, steamed towards a rendezvous with French Ship (FS) Var to conduct replenishment at sea (RAS). Both warships are integrated in Combined Task Force 150 (CTF-150), in the aim to prevent terrorism and related illegal activity throughout the region. This was not the first meeting of these two vessels but it was to be the most complex evolution conducted so far.

Combined Task Force 150’s (CTF-150) flagship, French Ship (FS) Var, and Her Majesty’s Ship Richmond recently stopped in Dar Es Saalam for a port visit in May. Captain (Capt) Crignola, Commanding Officer of the Task Force, took this opportunity to meet with Brigadier General (BG) Hi Majumba, Deputy Commander of the Tanzanian Navy at the Tanzanian Navy headquarters.

Combined Task Force 150’s (CTF-150) flagship, French Ship (FS) Var, had on-going interactions in the Indian Ocean, with Her Majesty’s Ship (HMS) Richmond, who has been operating in direct support to CTF-150. This meeting at sea was the occasion for Commander CTF150 Captain (Capt) Crignola to meet HMS Richmond’s Commanding officer, Commander (Cdr). Anderson onboard the British ship.

Between the 27th of April and the 4th of May 2015, Combined Task Force 150 (CTF150) ships French Ship Var, Her Majesty’s Australian Ship (HMAS) Newcastle and Seychelles Patrol Ship (PS) Constant took part in Task Force counter-terrorism exercises in the Indian Ocean.

Combined Task Force (CTF) 150’s flagship, French Ship (FS) Var, had on-going interactions in the North Arabian Sea, with Task Force (TF) 473, the French Carrier battle group. The two Task Force Commanders, both belonging to the French Navy, met onboard the FS Var.
