Deputy Commander CTF (DCCTF) 150, Captain (Capt) Xavier Moreau of the French Marine Nationale, visited the Seychelles to engage in discussions with key maritime leaders.
Capt Moreau visited the Seychelles Regional Coordination Operation Centre (RCOC) and met the Director, Colonel (Col) Georges Adeline. The aim of the RCOC is to coordinate regional safety and security operations. The Centre is part of a wider information fusion network, which is based in Madagascar, and covers the whole of the Indian Ocean.
Collaboration between this and Combined Maritime Forces (CMF) was discussed, with the aim of exchanging information to allow greater inter-operability. They also discussed the successes of recent exercises and agreed the need to explore further joint training and explore capacity building opportunities. It was acknowledged that the presence of international liaison officers in each other’s organisation is very important to promote mutual understanding.
Capt Moreau also met with the Chief of Staff to Seychelles People’s Defence Force, Col Michael Rosette. Col Rosette underlined the Seychelles’ commitment to make a fruitful contribution to CMF. DCCTF 150 expressed how much CMF, and especially CTF 150, value the continued cooperation between the Seychelles and the coalition. They both concurred that mutual cooperation is the best way to combat illegal narcotics networks operating within the Southern Indian Ocean.
Capt Moreau left the Seychelles with a greater understanding of the nation’s defence structure. He was assured that information exchange and mutual cooperation in the Southern Indian Ocean will continue with a view to sustaining maritime security.
