Members of the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF) visited Royal Navy warship, HMS Diamond, whilst she was alongside in Bahrain recently. Diamond has recently joined CMF in the Middle East having sailed on her maiden deployment from the UK.
Some of the 26 member nations of CMF had an opportunity to meet the Ship’s company and to learn first hand about the capabilities of Britain’s latest fleet of Type 45 destroyers – one of the most advanced air defence platforms in the world.
Diamond joins CMF in order to help counter violent extremism and terrorist networks as well as to combat piracy. In addition the Ship and her crew are tasked with encouraging greater regional cooperation, thus setting the conditions for a safe maritime trading environment for all.
Speaking on behalf of CMF, Commodore Mukhtar Khan, Commander of Combined Task Force 150 said:
“Our visit gave the team at CMF a hands on insight into HMS Diamond’s impressive capability. It was also an ideal opportunity to welcome her to the region, we look forward to operating with her during her 6 month deployment”.
